Matric Receives ISO 13485 Certification

(Editor’s note: This is part 5 of a five-part series on the history of Matric Group, from a $20 investment in 1971 to a $60+ million business today.)

With several decades of growth in size and experience, Matric Limited was excited to hit the ground running for the 2010s and 20s.

Focused on gaining industry certification, Matric worked hard to become a leading manufacturer of electronic components for every major industry, including, but not limited to, the Military, Defense, Aerospace, Medical, and Construction industries.

Matric Becomes a Leading Certified Electronics Contract Manufacturer

Through the mid-2010s, Matric Group was formed between Matric, Dynamic, and Windurance.  Through this same time, Matric was focused on gaining industry dominance by earning certifications to work in the Medical, Military/Defense, and Aerospace industries. Beginning in 2010, Matric worked hard to obtain the AS 9100 Aerospace. Released in 1999 and widely accepted, AS 9100 standardized the design, manufacturing, and shipping processes of any components entering the Aerospace industry.

After riding the success of the AS 9100 certification, Matric worked hard for the next two years to receive ISO 13485 medical-device certifications. ISO 13485 is an all-encompassing set of regulations, training procedures, and handling instructions that deal with design/safety requirements and manufacturing and shipping procedures.

Editors Note: While we highlighted two important certifications here, Matric has a long list of certifications, procedures, and standards that it follows. Understanding the difference between each standard can get complicated and confusing, so we’ve created this IPC standards chart that lays out our other standards in detail. Expanding Electronic Contract Manufacturing Workstations

With the 2010s underway with an uptick in demand, Matric, and Dynamic invested in expanding their manufacturing facilities. From 2013 through the present day, Matric has been focused on integrating state-of-the-art technology to guide and improve the production of its electronic components. In 2013 Matric installed their first 3D printing, in-circuit testing, ball grid array, x-ray, and AOI inspection machines.

Fast forward to 2017 and the installation of Matric's state-of-the-art SMT line capable of placing 100,000 parts/hour alongside 142 additional workstations, ovens, solder paste inspection machines, and AOI machines. Presently, from 2020 through today, Matric has integrated three new Vertical Lift Storage Systems.

Having revolutionized the efficiency of their inventory management systems, Matric also decided to adopt Toyota’s “Figure 8” factory pattern and installed a new plasma cleaning machine, additional SMT lines, and an etching machine.

Dynamic Manufacturing Facility in Pittsburgh

However, Matric wasn’t the only company experiencing growth during this time period. Dynamic Manufacturing also underwent a 10,000 square ft addition to their building to accommodate the increased demand.

Dynamic would also receive the Governor’s Award for Safety Excellence.

Importance of Working with A Certified ECM

Throughout the 2010s to the present day, both Matric and Dynamic have been focused on producing the highest quality products under the best possible operating conditions, which didn’t go unnoticed.  Matric received the Governor’s Award for Safety Excellence twice, once in 2014 and again in 2018 (where Matric would also be selected as Venango County Business of the Year).

Being located in rural Venango County, Matric continued to grow and gain national authority, aided in 2019 when Matric earned the HUBZone certification, which is a program designed to help historically underutilized small businesses in urban and rural areas gain preferential access to federal contracts at more preferential rates so they can compete.

Matric Group Through the Ages

Throughout its history, Matric Group has always been invested in producing high-quality, long-lasting electronics products. From the first HAM Radio accessories to the highly-complex and technical control panels being produced now, every certification, standard, and quality control process has been instituted to ensure the highest quality of product gets shipped to our customers.
