Matric Group, a contract manufacturer of electronic assemblies, celebrated its recent reception of the Pennsylvania Governor’s Award for Safety Excellence in a ceremony at its facility on Nov. 2.
The award recognizes employer/employee joint initiatives that result in a significantly safer work environment. Matric’s safety program resulted in 753 straight days without a work-related medical claim, the longest such streak in the company’s 47-year history.
The Matric Safety Committee attended the Governor’s Occupational Safety and Health Conference on Oct. 29 to receive the award alongside President and Owner Rick Turner.
“We have terrific associates who are safety-conscious,” says Turner. “This would not have been possible without them.”
Key factors to Matric’s record-breaking safety efforts include its Up and To the Right Report, which identifies leading indicators through root-cause analysis that produce awareness and eliminates complacency. At Matric, all safety issues are documented and researched, down to each Band-Aid used. Each report is reviewed personally by Turner.
Matric has received the award once before, in 2014. Matric Vice President of Operations, Patrick Stimpert, oversaw efforts to improve safety across the facility, but acknowledges the 300-plus associates are the ones who have earned this award.
“I want to thank the safety committee and associates who have made Matric one of the
safest manufacturing plants in Pennsylvania,” he says.
